We create therapeutic environments designed to support protocols that support the reduction of anxiety, respect for patient privacy, and open communication between doctor and patient. We conceive the health care facility as a village, with a 'main street' that organizes entryways, offices, nurse stations, and waiting areas, along its path. From this central spine, we create 'neighborhoods' of special care to clarify identifiable precincts. Within these neighborhoods, private 'houses' – patient rooms – are connected to the whole, but provide enclosure and comfort.

The laboratory is the building block of the research environment. We enable laboratory space, and the buildings that house them to respond to the demands of research. We provide simple patterns of circulation and systems. By designing flexible spaces, we enable the anticipation and accommodation of new equipment and a quick response to new projects and processes.
