From the one room hut to the palace, the private house is an important building type in the world of architecture. It is a fundamental expression of how people live and see themselves, how they wish to be seen, and how they are seen.

For us, the private house, whether free‐standing or one of a group, is a crucible for exploring ideas about how to inhabit our world. It is, inevitably, a search for wholeness. In our residential work, through scale, detail and attention to the site, we try to convey in equal measure a quality of welcoming and a quality of refuge.
