In recognition of her contributions to many aspects of our practice, Newman has named Laura Gilmore, AIA, LEED GA an Associate Principal of the firm. Laura has had a major impact on our practice since joining in office in 2018, bringing a keen design sensibility, a deep commitment to our work, and demonstrated skill in balancing the aspirations of clients, teams, and communities.
At Newman, Laura has led the design of several major new mixed-use developments in our region, as well as worked closely with consultants, contractors, and our team to execute intricate historic renovation projects. She has developed concepts across our market sectors that advance our collective thinking about design, sustainability, process, and technology, and she pushes for continual improvement in those areas of our practice. Laura is the leader of the Newman’s Design Methods Knowledge Group. She is passionate about working with her colleagues to develop standards and procedures that support the highest quality of design and project delivery.
Laura came to Newman with a wide variety of commercial, hospitality, civic, residential, and educational project experience through all phases of design and construction from offices in Chicago, Boston, New York, and Rotterdam. Early in her career, Laura was a key member of the team working on the noteworthy Seattle Central Library while at OMA. With her passion for history and culture, Laura continually looks for ways to invigorate and revitalize urban spaces, connecting people to place, and buildings to context through transformative sustainable design. She holds a BA in Architecture from Princeton University and a Master in Architecture from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.
