Before this renovation and addition project, the first floors of a seven-dormitory cluster were devoted primarily to the dining and kitchen spaces for each individual building. The demolition of one dorm to make way for a new common dining facility has allowed a complete redesign of each dormitory’s ground floor. These main floors now accommodate a new program of shared common spaces in which students can meet both casually and formally to study, recreate, and socialize.
The new, two story dining hall seats 550 students at ground level, and houses meeting rooms and a lecture hall on the second floor. Landscape architecture in the quadrangle includes a new outdoor amphitheater, new pathways and the planting of trees to create a wooded setting for the building group.
