Newman has worked with Fairfield University since 2017 on improvements to their residential quad: Campion, Jogues, Gonzaga, Regis, and Loyola Halls. Aimed at unifying this precinct of campus, the study proposed minor but impactful additions and renovations, as well as site improvements for the five freshman residence halls, which we have subsequently carried out over successive years as summer construction projects.
At each building, the addition of a four-story “lantern” acts as a visual marker and place of arrival, and houses programmatic additions of student lounges, expanded common spaces, and a new student health center in Jogues Hall. Renovations include restroom upgrades that improve accessibility, increase efficiency, and allow for year-to-year gender floor changes. Systems improvements have brough air conditioning to each building.
