This extensive reimaging of the long-abandoned site turns the former UConn graduate campus into a community-driven mixed-use development. A mix of residential—townhouses, apartments, and an assisted living facility— and commercial—including storefronts, a grocery, and destination spa share one half of the site. The other side will house primarily residential development and will preserve the current community baseball fields and playground. The mixed-use development, designed by Newman, is based around a new, curvilinear interior road that acts as a spine for the project. Site remediation and the preservation of twelve acres of wetlands and a woodland trail create a nature-focused experience for residents, neighbors, and visitors. The project is currently moving though the approvals process.
