Newman worked with SuperSandwich to design a new shop that serves customers in three ways: through online orders, walk-in orders, and catering. Each type of customer circulates through a separate service path to avoid congestion. The large, commercial kitchen accommodates the activity of simultaneous service, catering, and delivery with a 30-foot-long stainless-steel hood as the centerpiece. A superscale stained ash arch clearly identifies the points of sale and frames the activity of the kitchen.
The space prioritizes walk-in/sit down customers with seating that allows a diverse community of customers to come together. Seating options include six-top communal tables and counter height seating along the exterior walls. An architectural gesture on each wall brings order to the SuperSandwich brand paraphernalia. Wood and color bring warmth to the industrial aesthetic of sealed concrete floor and the exposed, painted ceiling. Spots of light help bring down the scale of the 18-foot-high ceilings with lighting chosen to make customers look good and highlight the industrial feel.
