Newman worked with Ocean Management to restore two historic 1920s buildings in New Haven's East Rock Neighborhood into modern, multi-family developments.
The historic renovation of 1455 State Street converted a vacant 26,351 square-foot building into a multi-family residential complex with 17 units in a mix of studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedrooms. Originally built in 1925, the building was restored and modernized from top to bottom. The spacious units are complete with modern kitchen and bathroom fixtures, in-unit laundry, and large windows that bring in natural light and views of the railyard and East Rock Park. The two-level units feature spiral staircases and large decks. The project included site improvements and parking lot repairs.
This project joins its next-door neighbor, 1435 State Street, a historic building that Newman renovated in 2017. 1435 State Street underwent a comprehensive renovation that restored and maintained the 1920s façade and select interior features. The 21 units are comprised of studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments featuring in-unit laundry, railyard and East Rock Park views, access to a shared fitness room, and unique planter boxes for gardening located in the backyard of the complex.
