Our work on the renovation of the existing Hugh S. Greer Field House at the University of Connecticut began with a detailed programming, feasibility, and due diligence phase. Following the selection of a preferred and fully vetted option, we are carrying out a major renovation to position the building for its next chapter at the Bailey Student Athlete Success Center. The renovation consolidated training, locker rooms, offices, and support spaces for Swimming and Diving, Rowing, Track and Field, Cross Country, Tennis, and Field Hockey, currently housed in six separate locations on campus.
The reorganization of the building allows the incorporation of new programs into the building as part of the University’s Athletics Vision, including the Nayden Academic Excellence Center that supports the academic achievement of all student athletes on campus. The renovation will provide each sport housed in the Field House state-of-the-art facilities and spaces for coaches and students to study, train, and team-build. The new monumental entrance will provide a recognizable public entrance, align the building with the rest of the campus, and announce a main point of arrival. When the first phase of the renovation is complete in Fall 2025, it will be the first built project to combine all four of Newman’s design disciplines: architecture, interiors, lighting, and branding.
